Get to know your veterans benefit coordinator
Veterans should see the Veterans Benefits Coordinator in Room 1410 A-8 for more details concerning tuition payment extensions and enrollment certification of other types of veterans benefits.

Olive Harvey College is approved by the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs State Approving Agency for all credit programs and careers.

The Veterans Affairs Office is staffed with a qualified Certifying Official who has been extensively trained to provide assistance to qualified veterans by submitting Enrollment Certification the Veterans Administration for receipt of educational benefits needed to meet the student veteran educational goals

Veterans Educational Benefits


The Illinois Veterans Grant Program: Program pays tuition and certain fees for either undergraduate or graduate study at all Illinois public universities and community colleges for Illinois veterans who qualify (http://www.collegezone.com/studentzone/416_962.htm).

Eligibility

The Illinois National Guard Grant: This scholarship is available for any enlisted person or Lieutenant or Captain with at least one (1) year of service in the Illinois Army/Air National Guard.  It is available for eight (8) semesters or twelve quarters of full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate study at any Illinois state controlled university or community college (http://www.collegezone.com/studentzone/416_964.htm).  This scholarship pays tuition and appropriate fees. 


Eligibility


The Illinois Army National Guard is open to all students. Persons participating in the program receive free tuition and fees in return for service in the National Guard.  Persons interested in the program may receive more information by writing the Illinois National Guard, 5200 South Cottage Grove; Chicago, Illinois 60615. The Illinois MIA / POW Scholarship: is a tuition scholarship for student dependents of Illinois prisoners of war and servicemen missing in action.

The Vocational Rehabilitation Program:  A veteran may be eligible for benefits if he/she incurred or aggravated a service connected disability, which entitles him/her to DVA disability compensation, and is in need of vocational rehabilitation because his/her disability creates an employment handicap.

Disabled veterans are encouraged to contact the DVA office nearest them to obtain detailed information and to request approval to participate.

Veterans' Registration Information: Veterans approved for any of the above mentioned scholarships will not be required to pay for tuition at the time of registration, they will be granted a deferment which allows them to attend classes until the actual payment is received by the school.

Tutoring
Tutoring Centers offer one-on-one tutoring, study groups, and computerized tutorial sessions. You can also attend workshops to learn how to improve your study skills, time management, test taking, or note taking.

Disability Access Centers
Disability Access Centers at Olive-Harvey College are dedicated to meeting the needs of students with disabilities and helping them pursue their academic studies.

Credit for Life Experience
City Colleges offers programs that allow you to use life experience as college credit. Experience in the military, Advanced Placement courses and work experience may be used for college credit in many cases
