Phlebotomy students at Olive-Harvey College celebrated a 100% pass rate on the National Phlebotomy Association exam on June 9, 2007.
"I am so very proud of each and every one of my students", said Gowanda McCrary, professor of phlebotomy at OHC, "it was their nonstop dedication and their passion to pass this exam that got them all through the exam. Each of the students that successfully passed the exam came to all of the study sessions, studied hard and practiced all of their skills as much as possible." Professor McCrary is a 2003 graduate of Olive-Harvey College and has been an instructor at Olive-Harvey since January 2007.
The exam was three hours long and included a clinical application. There were over 200 written questions and with this license students can obtain positions in phlebotomy in any of the fifty states. Phlebotomy technicians work in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinical laboratories, physician offices and medical centers. Some students will go on to immediately obtain positions in phlebotomy while others will pursue further training at City Colleges in fields such as renal or surgical technology.
OHC students who passed the exam are: Sheila Shelton, Angelia Wright, Judy Garcia, Terrance Robinson, Darlene Brown, Bobbie Brady, Eva Gurerro, Julian Dickerson, Cheryl Lewis, Brandon Riley, Valerie Johnson.
